Na okraji města Benešov stával starý a opuštěný hostinec. Jeho věže a okna byla černošedivá a fasáda rozpadající se. Lidé ho obcházeli, protože byl prokletý, a nikdo se neodvážil dovnitř vkročit. Tento hostinec se jmenoval "U Zlaté Hvězdy". Jednoho dne však do Benešova přijel mladý a dobrodružstvími posedlý kníže. Jmenoval se Jan a byl známý tím, že se nebojí žádného nebezpečí. Když viděl hostinec, okamžitě mu zazářily oči. Rozhodl se, že se do něj vydá a prokáže, že prokletí není nic víc než zlá pověst. Vstoupil dovnitř a spatřil zlatou hvězdu na stěně. Byla to nádherná malba s takovou sílou, že se Jan cítil, jako by byl obklopen magií. Rozhlédl se kolem a spatřil stařičkého hostinského. Volal se Antonín a byl posledním z rodu, který dříve hostinec vlastnil. Antonín se o Janových plánech dozvěděl a řekl mu o prokletí, které na hostinec padlo. Před léty měl hostinec sloužit jako úkryt pro loupežníky a zloděje. Při jedné potyčce vypomohl Antonín jednomu chudému cestovateli, který byl v nesprávnou dobu na nesprávném místě. Tento cestovatel byl ale kouzelník a jako odměnu pro Antonína proměnil hostinec v prokleté místo. Jan byl odhodlaný prokletí zlomit. Navzdory varování hostinského se rozhodl sehnat skupinu odvážlivců, kteří by mu pomohli. První dobrodruh, kterého potkal, se jmenoval Petr. Byl to statečný šermíř s ocelovou duší. Společně zamířili do hvozdu, kde se scházeli další odvážlivci. K nim se připojila Káťa, zručná lukostřelkyně, a František, bystrý a chytrý lovec. Společně se vydali do hostince a postupně se probojovali síní. Když dorazili do hlavní místnosti, objevili zlověstné stíny a záhadné zvuky. Všichni byli lehce vystrašení, ale nevzdávali se. Jan vytáhl ze svého meče, Petr napnul svůj luk a Káťa a František se připravili k boji. Za stoly se objevili malí tvorové se zlatými očima. Byli to duchové zlodějů a loupežníků, kteří kdysi v hostinci sídlili. Avšak stateční dobrodruhové se jim odvážně postavili. S každým úderem meče a šípu se rozplývali do vzduchu. Nakonec se dostali do sálu, kde byl obří dřevěný truhla. Jan ji otevřel a uvnitř nalezl prastarý amulet. Byl to amulet zlomeného kletby. Jakmile ho Jan vzal do ruky, hostinec se začal rozjasňovat a ze stěn se ztrácelo prokletí. Ve chvíli, kdy opustili hostinec, se z něj stalo nádherné místo plné radosti a veselí. Lidé se z celého Benešova začali sjíždět a návštěvou hostince si užívali krásného večera. Již téměř zapomenutý hostinec "U Zlaté Hvězdy" se stal místem, kde se scházeli dobrodružní lidé a kde se zrodila mnohá neuvěřitelná dobrodružství. A tak hostinský Antonín společně s Janem, Petrem, Kátou a Františkem žili šťastně až do konce svých dnů.
